The Enterprise crew is dispatched by Starfleet Command to assist Fortunate, a human freight vessel that has been attacked by Nausicaan pirates. On arriving, they are surprised to find that Fortunate's crew is resistant to Archer's efforts to help them and determined to seek revenge against their attackers, no matter the repercussions.

Ben refuses to talk to Felicity, and will only go near her to retrieve his belongings. Felicity drops by the loft in the middle of the night to leave him a note. Ben's mother flies in to visit his dad. She announces that Mr. Covington has shown enough improvement to be placed on the transplant list again. Ben is stunned to learn that his parents are getting back together. He is not angry, but worries that his father will continue to hurt his mother. Meghan comforts a devastated Felicity, and assures her that she and Ben belong together. Meghan lashes out at Ben for not even listening to Felicity's apology. Sean takes Meghan's support of Felicity as a sign that she has no problem with cheating, but she reminds Sean that the situation has nothing to do with their marriage. Ben meets Felicity at a restaurant, but becomes uncomfortable as she tries to explain what happened with Noel. He runs out. He tells Sean that he wants to forgive Felicity, but just can't bring himself to do

Ed represents Dennis in a minor fender-bender case, but when the other party's lawyer asks for an exorbiant amount of money, Dennis insists they settle in order to close the case; Ed tries to resurrect the annual Thanksgiving Day parade; Nancy declares war on her fellow ""cookie moms"" when she is sabotaged while launching her own cookie line.

Meanwhile, Lily gives Jimmy a picture of Sister Helen which they doctor and use as an e-mail joke. But when the e-mail is sent to Sister Helen, things aren't so funny anymore.

He refuses, but she leaves him the check and asks him to think about it. Drew agrees to a date with Christine. She explains that she is tough on the staff because she wants to increase productivity so that she won't have to lay off as many people. Nick Fallin finds himself the advocate for a 12-year-old girl, Lesley, who needs to be adopted by foster parents immediately in order to receive a heart transplant. Laurie Solt, a social worker for Legal Services (LS), is having trouble placing her due to the many demands of caring for a child with congenital heart disease. Inspired by Lesley's strength after she learns her current foster parents are unable to adopt her, Nick takes the search on as a personal campaign to save Lesley's life. As hope of finding suitable foster care fades, Nick decides that the only way to save Lesley's life is to become her legal guardian. Nick's supervisor at LS, Alvin Masterson questions Nick's ability to care for Lesley. Eventually, the judge does grant Nick legal guardianship. Meanwhile, one of Burton Fallin's old friends, Harry Josephs is dying of cancer and tells Burton he is challenging the employment contract of Hopeson, Inc., which terminates employment if an employee is unable to work for 90 consecutive days. Hopeson Inc. is a long time client of Fallin & Assoc. and Burton helped finalize the original employment contracts. Burton struggles with the responsibility of fighting for his clients and opportunity to stand by his friend.
