The hot Santa Ana desert winds stir up more troubles for the Baywatch lifeguards when a typical day begins with a large hole appearing on the beach, as well as an uncharted sand bar, the lifeguard trucks disappearing and then reappearing buried in the sand. Also, mysterious deaths of sea lions point to a giant electric eel living in the Zuma Beach caves.

Annie's former mentor from New Jersey is coming to town especially to see her star pupil in Cats, unaware that Annie quit the show. Annie begs Caroline to accompany them to dinner, where they learn that Miss McGowan has recently lost over 150 pounds, but immediately begins to overeat when Annie attempts to explain - so an uncharacteristically timid Annie must beg the producer for her job back for just one golden evening for Miss McGowan, abetted by an old programme supplied by Del. Meanwhile, Richard joins Charlie as an experimental guinea pig for testing new drugs (""We prefer the term biosluts.""), but a new antihistamine soon has them both convinced that Richard's furniture is staring at them.

Craig gives Jennifer a car as a reward for her success in promoting the cauterizer at a medical supplies convention. Lexi hides a pill addiction from Peter. Sam demands an expensive wedding dress.

In return for this, the Cigarette-Smoking Man asks that Mulder quit the FBI and work for him in the Syndicate where he could have power and respect which Mulder turns down, deciding to stay on the side of justice. While Scully's cure appears to have worked, the Cigarette-Smoking Man faces his own enemies and disappears, presumed dead.

One of Maggie's patients gets a new butler, but Eileen becomes suspicious when a few items go missing. Other thefts have occurred including a stolen pool table that is sold on to Claude. Gina is also thrilled to learn that she is now the licensee of the pub, but she feels Steve is trying to take over. Greengrass arranges to take bets on a pool game.It turns out that the butler had been going under a number of false identities and had been responsible for the shooting and burglaries. Nick tells Claude the pool table is stolen and its taken away. Claude has to find a replacement, and he does, but its a snooker table he later realises the balls are too big for the pockets! Maggie is surprised when her husband turns up in Ashfordly.

Cooper sets out to get justice for the Wilsons. He begins by confronting two of Kilgore's men; they draw on him and he outshoots them. Cooper is about to leave when he is stopped by Texas Ranger Cabe Wallace, who wants to sort out what happened between Cooper and the men he killed. After being satisfied that Cooper acted in self-defense, he lets him go but first talks to him about the line between justice and vengeance. He then offers Cooper a Texas Ranger badge, which Cooper accepts. He then goes off to find Kilgore and after finding him, he tried to bring Kilgore in, but Kilgore has too many men and he is shot. He rides out into the desert and is found by some Indians who nurse him back to health. Back in town Bedoe is going to buy the Wilson land but Sarah speaks out, and Sheriff backs her, but Kilgore kills the Sheriff. When Wallace returns he confronts Kilgore who kills him. When Cooper recovers he returns and faces Kilgore and wins. He also takes out Bedoe. Cooper then decides to
