Zentradi commander Britai Kridanik and his archivist, Exsedol Folmo, begin suspecting that the humans (or 'miclones') are the long-lost 'Protoculture' and send attack waves to test their theory. During a Zentradi attack, Global orders the Macross to "reconfigure" itself to combat mode in order to fend them off. However, the move proves disastrous for the unsuspecting civilians and infrastructure. Roy and Minmay convince Hikaru to join the UN Spacy fleet on the Macross so he could continue flying.

Louie overdoes it when he reprimands Jeff in front of the garage owner, though, and the owner not only fires Jeff but has him arrested. Louie eventually tells the owner the truth before Alex has a chance to turn him in, but the owner thinks that Louie is only doing it to protect Jeff. The owner decides as a favor to Louie to drop the charges against Jeff and hire him back, so Louie's crime ends up going unpunished despite his good intentions.

Meanwhile, the women are dressed up in fancy clothes and make-up for a propoganda photo, but the day is ruined when the depressed Sally commits suicide by slashing her wrists with a broken mirror. The Japs come down heavy on everyone as the ladies reel from the shock of Sally's sudden death.
